How to Get Court Records
Both the District Court and County Court files for Las Animas County sit with the Clerk of Court. That office is the Combined Court. One office, two dockets. The easiest first step is the statewide Colorado Record and Document Request. Pull a hearing case number from the free docket if you need one. But remember the docket stops there. It gives no Register of Action and no filed images.
- Collect the case number, court type, party names, filing year, and exact record needed.
- Submit the statewide web form, or use the downloadable request form after confirming delivery instructions.
- For in-person help, visit Room 304 at the Combined Court; for phone help, call 719-846-3316.
- Before mailing, confirm the address, payment method, and any identity requirement with the clerk. Fax is not a filing channel.
- Wait for the fee and availability response, then pay by the route the court provides.
A paid commercial ROA search is another way to spot a filing. Treat its result as unofficial and image-free, though. Real records, filed or certified, come only from the court itself.
Las Animas Court Record Form
The statewide form exists to pin down a Las Animas County court record. It also returns a fee estimate. Fill in the delivery address fields so the clerk can mail what you order. A case number works best. Without one, an approximate year, the case type, the county, a date of birth, and party names can still narrow the search considerably.
| Request Detail | Status | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email, phone | Form contact fields | Identifies the requester and response route |
| Address, city, state, ZIP | Address fields required | Supports mailing and identity details |
| Case number | If known | Direct match, using a form such as 2023AA123456 |
| Case type and year | Optional | Narrows a Las Animas County record search |
| Party information | Required | Supplies names and useful identifiers |
The manifest-captured official request interface shows the live document choices and contact fields:
Choose “Other” and select ROA when you want the official chronology rather than a single named filing.
Types of Court Records
Las Animas County court records come in many case types and document classes. The form lets you name the exact item instead of ordering a whole file. That saves search time and copying money.
- Criminal complaints or informations, disposition and sentence orders, protection orders, and tickets
- Civil orders for judgment, transcripts of judgment, satisfactions of judgment, and protection orders
- Family decrees, parenting plans, separation agreements, support orders, and petitions
- Probate letters, wills, trusts, applications, petitions, closing documents, and claims
- Registers of Action, certified copies, exemplified copies, and separately ordered transcripts
Municipal ordinance files stay with the municipal court that heard the case. The Combined Court does not hold every Trinidad or Aguilar citation.
Las Animas Court Records Counter
One counter serves both state trial levels in Las Animas County. The structure is unified. You pick District Court or County Court rather than hunting down a second records office. District Court handles felonies, larger civil cases, domestic relations, juvenile, probate, and mental-health matters. County Court keeps the misdemeanor, traffic, small-claims, limited civil, protection-order, and initial felony-complaint files.

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-noon and 1:00-4:00 p.m.
The noon closure can derail a special trip, so plan around it. The court does not publish where a public terminal sits or what it can do, so call ahead before counting on terminal access.
What a Court Record Contains
A court record can mean three different layers. The free docket is just a schedule, and the ROA is the chronological summary. Filed documents are the complaints, motions, orders, decrees, or judgments behind that summary. Ask for the layer that answers your real need.
| Case Number | Year, case-class letters, and sequence tied to the file. |
|---|---|
| ROA | Chronological charges, sentences, minute orders, and case events. |
| Pleadings | The complaint, petition, answer, motion, or other filed paper requested. |
| Orders and Judgments | Court rulings, decrees, judgment records, and disposition orders. |
| Certification | The clerk's authentication attached to a copy when requested. |
The free calendar promises no attorney data, finance ledgers, bond amounts, or document links. Those fields simply are not part of the public listing.
Las Animas Court Record Layers
A listed “Hearing on Citation” shows an event on the calendar. It does not show what happened in it. So a court docket result never replaces the order itself. A vendor ROA can help identify a record, sure. But the Colorado Judicial Branch says plainly that the vendor result is not official.
| Record Layer | Shows | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Docket or calendar | Date, time, hearing type, court, room, appearance mode | Free Judicial Branch search |
| Register of Action | Chronological case summary | Vendor search or official court request |
| Filed document | Actual text of an order, complaint, judgment, or decree | Combined Court clerk |
Already have a case number? A contextual Las Animas County case search can confirm the current hearing before you send off the document request.
Certified Copies and Fees
A plain copy just reproduces a Las Animas County court record. Certification is what adds clerk authentication, and so does an exemplified copy. Pay for that stamp only when the receiving agency or proceeding requires it, since the fee is charged per document on top of copying where assessed.
| Item | Posted Amount or Condition |
|---|---|
| Copy | $0.25 per page; $15 cap for a party or that party's attorney |
| Certified or exemplified copy | $20 per document, plus copying where assessed |
| Name search | $5 |
| Transcript of Judgment | $25 |
| Certificate of Satisfaction | $20 |
| Off-site retrieval | Actual cost |
| Research or redaction | $30 per hour in 15-minute increments after the first hour |
Las Animas County sets no stated copy cap for nonparties, so check the current total with the clerk before ordering a large court file.
Las Animas Record Response Standard
The web form sets an initial response expectation of three business days, absent extenuating circumstances. That clock has a limit. It does not mean every Las Animas County court record lands in your hands within three days. Often the court first identifies a fee or requests ID. Sometimes it explains that records sit off site. Three days is the first reply, not the finish line.
What can extend the process: broad requests, archive retrieval, redaction, restricted-access review, payment, and transcript preparation can all take more time.
A narrow request for one known document is simpler to price and fulfill. A demand for every paper in an old case will always cost more time.
Las Animas Court Record Transcripts
Transcripts do not run through the normal copy workflow. They come from the court reporter or transcription channel. Start with Form JDF 4. It asks for the case number, county, caption, division or courtroom, judicial officer, transcript type, appeal status, and any accessibility need. Ordinary Service runs $3.60 per page with a 30-day service level. Expedited service is $4.35 per page with a 10-day service level. Overnight and hourly rates need a court order first. Exhibits, protected reports, and sealed portions may require separate permission or stay unavailable.
Las Animas CCE Court Records
Colorado Courts E-Filing gives eligible parties access to their own opted-in cases. It is not a public document viewer. Registration, eligibility, opt-in, and court acceptance all have to line up. Acceptance itself can take up to two business days. The official non-attorney e-filing page lays out that limited own-case channel for non-attorneys.
Not an authorized party? Then skip the CCE account and use the public request process to search records instead.
Public Access and Sealed Records
Colorado decides who can see a court file through court-specific access rules. It is not a blanket promise of public viewing. A Las Animas County case record can be open at the clerk's counter. Yet it may have no full online image. Some files stay closed or come out redacted. Juvenile, adoption, dependency, mental-health, sealed, and individually restricted records are the main ones.
Key Rules:
CJD 05-01, Access to Court Records governs public access, exclusions, fees, and remote versus courthouse access to case records.
Colorado Public Access Rule 2 governs Judicial Branch administrative records and is distinct from the case-record framework.
Colorado Criminal Procedure Rule 55.1 presumes criminal court records open unless a law, directive, or order restricts access.
Protected identifiers get redacted. Even when a docket search cannot display restricted material, the court still preserves it.
Las Animas Restricted Court Records
The record form warns that government photo identification may be required for restricted files. Access turns on your legal role. It also turns on the order or rule that governs the record. Send no extra sensitive data unless the court asks for it through an official channel. Many types of material sit outside ordinary public access in Las Animas County. The list includes deposited wills, genetic tests, treatment records, juror questionnaires, criminal histories, medical evaluations, presentence reports, and protected child-related court records. A redacted public copy can exist side by side with the unredacted original. The clerk keeps that original.
Las Animas Archived Court Records
Older or image-only Las Animas County court records may need a request at the courthouse. Off-site retrieval is billed at actual cost. No official cutoff year or microfilm inventory applies to this county, so give the clerk the approximate year, court type, names, and case class to help locate the file. Call the Combined Court before mailing an archive request or driving a long way. The county page lists a fax but expressly says fax filings are not accepted. Use the current state form, confirmed mail instructions, or the Room 304 counter.
